Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The Italian social landscape is taking on radically new traits, unimaginable only a few decades ago. We are witnessing Italy's transformation into a multi-ethnic society, characterized by new problems and new opportunities. The article contributes to the understanding of the political, ethical and cultural challenges that this process raises. In particular, this change requires a new idea of citizenship, based not on a sense of exclusive belonging to a nation, but rooted in places of residence, "acted" in the contexts of everyday life, capable of including the excluded and generating good common, but also to question oneself about the values and principles that underpin the identity of a political community and regulate coexistence ». Such an idea also interests and challenges the Church, calling her above all to carry out "a truly educational mission, which does not result in the transmission of knowledge and skills, but which becomes a catalyst for resources, values, innovations, making itself the expression of a collective project that you look at to the future ».
