Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Absent any biblical reference in Verga's social life novels, it is from the Verist season, especially in the Sicilian setting narrative, that frequent references to the sacred text are encountered, consistent with the dictates of the new poetic embraced by the author, which imposed him to fully absorb the culture and colorful expressiveness of the people. Thus the Verga major documents the space that biblical figures and stories occupy in the imagery and language of his characters. Not for nothing, they belong to the most common and conventional repertoire of the devout tradition. To validate this interpretation the card gives a rich set of emblematic examples.
