Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The very serious economic and financial crisis that hit the industrialized and developing countries in the 2008-2009 two-year period clearly showed how the extraordinary change that has taken place in emerging economies in recent decades has profoundly changed the nature of economic relations between countries. rich and the rest of the world. It is now clear that a growth paradigm must be rethought which, although not the only one in existence, has certainly been dominant in the last twenty years. A paradigm that is based on the idea that the market always knows how to self-regulate and that pushed individualism is a necessity for progress where the losers deserve to be such having no success. These are just some of the issues addressed in the essays collected in this volume which reports, with minimal adjustments and revisions, the contributions presented and debated in the International Conference organized by the Centesimus Annus - Pro Pontifice Foundation held in Vatican City on 12 June 2009. several contributions examine, from an economic, political and social point of view, also taking into account the cultural perspectives, the characteristics of a development model that is based on the categories of subsidiarity and solidarity, which can guarantee with economic growth also the development that " it must not be understood in an exclusively economic way, but in an integrally human sense
