Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] For years, in Italy, settlements have been studied from the point of view of population loss and degradation/loss of buildings. Recently we have witnessed the implementation of restructuring and functional reconversion processes.
This does not only apply to the settlement system and the economic-social context but also to the complementary railway communication system, which has suffered significant abandonments of some of its parts. Public policies, widespread awareness, aggregation in committees are also in this case leading to reconversions and new uses. The contribution reflects - with application to the Veneto Region - on what has happened and is happening in this sector and how it is connected to the most various types of tourism and use of free time, specifically the railway sector.
