Abstract
The foundation of the Department of Agricultural Sciences at the Piacenza campus of the Catholic University is attributed to the interlinked efforts and skills that can now be reconstructed thanks to new and unpublished sources. This process drew in local institutions, associations and many citizens acted to allow the University to broaden its scientific and educational interests with an inclusion of the Agricultural Sciences. The essay highlights the contribution made by the Provincial Institution of Higher Agricultural Education, founded in Piacenza in 1984 to promote and finance the birth of the Department of Agricultural Sciences. The Department was also created with the aim of contributing to the modernization of the country and of fighting against social inequality.
