Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The expurgated copy of The Spanish Parnassus by Francisco de Quevedo from the Library of the University of Santiago de Compostela shows us two different attitudes of censorship of the 18th century: on the one hand, the search for simple words without having finds double meanings; on the other, the conception of censorship as a simple advisor to the reader in the face of Quevedian conceptism. Furthermore, the importance of this particular copy lies in the lesser presence of crossed out passages compared to others, which probably allowed for better knowledge and greater accessibility to posterity.
