Abstract

This book tells about how a success may draw its origin from a failure: in 1982 a group of private and public banks decide to incorporate a new bank, initially denominated Nuovo Banco Ambrosiano. In the successive 25 years this bank realizes an impressive and unprecedented growth, becoming the first Italian bank. This research takes into analysis both the main and the less known aspects of the corporate history of this institute. The book benefits of the uniqueness of the available sources like the diaries since 1982 to 1999 of Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, former Bank of Italy Governor, who held a relevant position in the story and the direct witness of Giovanni Bazoli, whose professional and civic involvement is at the base of the rebirth of the bank. The book supplies an extraordinary point of view on the still nowadays evolving in the reality of Intesa San Paolo successful story of the bank.
