Abstract
The article offers a first transnational history of the first Finnish air mission to the Arctic, namely the "Turku" expedition organised to rescue the castaways of the airship "Italia" in Svalbard Archipelago (June-July 1928). Through the analysis of unpublished archive documentation kept in Rome, Tromsø and Helsinki, the article sheds light on a mission that also constituted a founding episode of Italian-Finnish relations in the inter-war period.
