Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The issue of the efficiency of financial intermediaries and the evaluation of the main indicators of profitability, risk and capital solidity have been analyzed in previous issues of the Monetary Observatory1. This paper proposes some reflections on the efficiency level of a particular category of financial intermediaries, the asset management companies (SGR), whose operational area has undergone significant changes in recent years, also due to the effects generated by the financial crisis and from the changed attitude of investors towards various intermediation activities (and primarily that of asset management). In fact, it remains to be asked whether the evolution of the competitive strategies of the intermediaries operating in the field of asset management have changed or is to be expected in light of the recent evolution of the financial markets and the effects of this on their organizational structure as well as on the offer of services of investment.
