Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The study of the literature on the phenomenon of children's participation in the community reveals some critical perspectives on the universalistic construct of children's rights and participation, recognizing its Western and predominantly individualistic roots. The contribution examines some projects of political participation of boys and girls activated in Europe that have also spread in contexts belonging to the so-called Global South, in order to make explicit the principles that have inspired the implementation of these initiatives. This essay analyses the possible correspondences between the principles identified and those of some Pedagogies of the South, which give greater importance to the community perspective. The analysis aims to critically examine the role of the so-called 'decolonial' theories in the context of children's participation, responding to UNESCO's invitation to reflect on the elements to be maintained, abandoned or reinvented in the definition of a 'new social contract for education', with particular emphasis on the active participation of children.
