Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Pío Baroja's short narrative production anticipated in a varied and original way the thematic and stylistic imaginary that, later on, also characterized the vast novel production of the Basque writer. In particular, despite considering himself a marginal author with respect to the Generation of 1898, in his short narrative Baroja wanted to reflect on many of the dominant motives that define the brand of social commitment that, according to some critics, would determine the true nature of the generation. The purpose of this work is to analyze the relationships between the production of short Barojian narrative and the peculiar context in which it was conceived.
