Abstract

The brief episode of the shepherd transformed in oleaster in Ovid’s Metamorphoses (14, 512-526) has a metapoetical value, since it exhibits the main features of ancient Italic poetry, that is destined to be superseded by Greek influence, like Camenae by Muses.
