Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explain the main points of the idea of (representative) democracy formulated by Alcide De Gasperi, few decades ago. At the heart of his reflection, there are the keys to understanding the constitutive elements of Italian parliamentary democracy, especially regarding the link between mediation and disintermediation. Through the focus on this relationship, this article shows that – with an unchanged institutional system – it is possible to have leaderships that favor political mediation and others that prefer disintermediation.
