Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The "Cratilo" is a fundamental text for understanding Platonic thought, not only with regard to the name and etymology, but above all with reference to ontology and metaphysics. In this monograph I focus on the metaphysical and ontological problem. In the "Cratilo" the dialectic of Ideas and Metaides of Movement and Quiet is outlined and the status of the world of becoming is analyzed. The discussion on names, the etymological treatment, opens up to an understanding of the Platonic system in its entirety. The "labyrinth of names" built in the "Cratilo", once deciphered, appears as a real "encyclopedia of Platonic knowledge".
