Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The contribution, starting from the trends of the mobile telephony market, tries to highlight the need to conduct in-depth reflections on a daily tool: the mobile phone. The market pushes towards a diffusion of the cellular phone in the younger age groups, even from three years upwards, a tendency that intercepts a fundamental need of parents, that is the need to exercise forms of control and defense of their children, and that of boys, that is, to possess a tool that signals and simplifies belonging to the group, which defends from loneliness. In fact, this technological artifact, like any other medium, is not neutral: designed to meet certain needs, set and create the conditions for new practices of use, it creates new spaces for interaction; on the other hand, the use that people make of them, according to their needs, to the contexts of use, transforms the medium itself, creating new needs, new codes, new forms of communication. The main feature of the mobile (to make the individual potentially always in communication) and, in particular, of the SMS (use of the word written in asynchronous mode) make this instrument a precious resource, provided that it is used in a balanced and conscious way .
