Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Research and clinical practice have long highlighted the existence of a significant link between the psychological well-being of individuals and the quality of the couple's relationship that involves them. During the transition to parenthood this association assumes particular relevance, especially considering the high number of stressors that characterize this phase and that can put the psychological well-being of mothers and fathers at risk. Indeed, the literature has shown that the perception of conflict with the partner and lack of support in the relationship constitute risk factors for the onset of postpartum depression in women. As far as men are concerned, it has been noted that a risk factor for the onset of perinatal depression is represented by a lack of satisfaction with respect to the couple's relationship. However, most research has focused on the perception that individuals have of their relationship as a couple and only recently has the focus turned to the "bond", therefore to aspects of mutual influence in its perception and evaluation. The present study - longitudinal in four times (one in pregnancy and three post-partum) - intends to verify, according to a dyadic approach, whether the perception of the quality of the couple relationship can constitute a risk / protection factor for the onset of depression perinatal in a group of 126 primiparous pairs. During each phase the partners were given the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale. The results, obtained through multilevel analysis, which allow to enhance the point of view of both partners, have shown that fathers and mothers improve their well-being over time and that it is greater the more the subjects perceive a good couple adaptation. The quality of the couple relationship is therefore confirmed as a potential resource factor for the partners.
