Tutta una strada da costruire. Alessandra Scalero e il "mestiere del traduttore"

[Autom. eng. transl.] Alongside her work as a reader and translator for well-known Milanese publishers, Alessandra Scalero worked to discover and introduce foreign literary talents in Italy. This happened above all against American authors, who she translated first, pioneeringly into a technique and into a "road to be built", as she wrote to Mario Praz, and that she, "translating, first in Italy, Dos Passos" , built. The study of the documents kept in two archives, that of the Scalero sisters, preserved at the Civic library of Mazzè (TO), and the Arnoldo Mondadori Editore Archive, preserved at the Arnoldo Foundation and Alberto Mondadori in Milan, allows us to outline the figure of a woman who, thanks to competence and resourcefulness, made the profession of translator a profession.
