Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The figure of Mary, Mother of Christ, is central to the representation of the Passion of Christ. However, it is not the fulcrum of the evangelical narrative of the event. The essay analyzes how the devotion to the humanity of Christ - characteristic trait of Western spirituality starting from the IX sex. - bring with it a new attention towards the figure of the Mother which becomes the fulcrum of the story of the Passion and death of Christ. His presence constitutes the center of a veritable revolution of Passionist dramaturgy, ending the choice of new scenes and the new function of the drama of Passion, now aimed at compassion.
