Abstract
Il Trittico nuziale ( The wedding triptych) is composed of three plays of spousal love: Romeo and Juliet by W. Shakespeare, I promessi sposi by A. Manzoni and The flying tavern by G.K. Chesterton.
Surprisingly, Giuseppe Colombo, in this volume dedicated to the Betrothed, is as faithful to the letter of the novel as he is creative in bringing to light the 'unwritten' of Manzoni. Thus, for example, he consecrates the entire first part to the 'reconstruction' of a single chapter of the novel: the fourth, because there, and not in the first three, it begins, with an act of mercy on a dying man - surprise in surprise! -, what he calls "the poem of forgiveness". A duel, Lodovico mortally wounds the 'gentleman so' and is forgiven by him, converts, becomes fra Cristoforo, the 'bearer of Christ', receives from the brother of the dead 'the bread of forgiveness', poor but eloquent Eucharistic symbol.
In the second part of this volume we will see how Christopher is the alpha and the omega of the story of the two betrothed: he takes care of Renzo and Lucia, he educates them for marriage; he, consumed by the plague, happily seals the troubled story of their engagement in the hospital and gives them the 'bread of forgiveness'.
Eucharist-priesthood-marriage-family: a wonderful chain of love, an icon of the good life that finds its fulfillment not on this earth, but in heaven. A counter-current reading, today politically incorrect.
