Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Bearing in mind the 'Christian Middle Ages' and the theme of eschatology, it is possible to identify the characters of Morghen's reading of Dante-prophet. Morghen understands 'prophecy' in an eschatological perspective, considering it the announcement, the preaching in a temporal dimension of a decisive future for the life of the individual, but also of the community. A future of salvation that becomes possible after a turning point, a radical transformation. For Morghen, Dante himself presented himself to his contemporaries as a Prophet leaning towards the future for a mission received from above, herald of a hope of religious and civil redemption. Morghen brings in support of his thesis, according to which Alighieri was aware of having had the authority from above to speak to the great of the earth and to all the Christian people with the warning tone of the prophet, Dante's letter to the Italian cardinals, of which he also proposes a textual critique accompanied by a historical exegesis. For decades considered, with Buonaiuti, an essential reference, Morghen has however recently been demoted to a witness of historiographically concluded seasons
