Abstract

The article explores the transformations inherent in the transition to parenthood. Becoming parents involves a redirection in the life project of both the individual and the couple. The advent and diffusion of pre-natal ultrasound scanning have significantly affected the traditional modalities of expressing the expectations, concerns, hopes, and emotions linked to the future parents’ new role. The article examines the new educative opportunities offered by these diagnostic tests and suggests ways to take full advantage of their generative potential in terms of reflection and planning, contributing to the birth of new mothers and new fathers.
