Abstract
Sociological writings of Toniolo treat a wide variety of issues and problems, both theoretical and methodological, but his entire work relate to the social life and its complexity and make reference to the foundations of sociological knowledge. Among these foundations, the paper highlights three: the critique of the excesses of positivism, the centrality of human action and the primacy of sociology on other human sciences.
