Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Although a valid literature exists to systematize the philosophical-theological aspects of the work of John Henry Newman (1801-90), the same cannot be said of the more specifically literary writings of the English cardinal. Yet Newman published two novels and a considerable poetic corpus in his lifetime, basing this practice on a solid theoretical system, of his own conception, oriented around a decade-long meditation on the dichotomy between litera scripta and vox emissa and around the belief that sacred letters and seculars share the same entelechy, that is, the moral elevation of humanity.
