Abstract

One interesting new development of the contemporary philosophy is the emergence of a school of thought known as “analytic Thomism”. Several philosophers who had been trained in the methods of linguistic analysis studied the works of St Thomas Aquinas and endeavoured to present his teachings in a manner congenial to their analytic colleagues. Unfortunately analytical Thomism has been largely ignored by continental Thomists. This book now remedies this situation. It focuses on a single, central, topic: the philosophy of Being and devotes patient and friendly, but not uncritical, chapters to the writings of Peter Geach, one of the fathers of analytical Thomism, and half a dozen of his followers, such as A. Kenny, H. Weidemann, C. Martin, B. Davies, D. Braine, S. Brock, A. Llano, B.Miller.
