Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Within "The Sisters", an introductory story by Gente di Dublin (1914) by James Joyce, an ambiguous narrative strategy was recognized, which lies halfway between realism and symbolism. The attention to internal narrative techniques is accompanied by a focus on some key terms (paralysis, simony, gnomon) of the short story, which lay the foundations (cultural, anthropological) of the reading of all the remaining fourteen stories of Gente di Dublin.
