The origins of Franciacorta in the Italian Renaissance, Introduction by Kerin O’Keefe

The history of the vine and wine is investigated in the light of medieval sources; the result is an original cross-section of great interest that is also enriched by the references offered by agronomic sources (Pier de 'Crescenzi, Agostino Gallo, etc.). Particular attention is paid to the production of "cisiolo", a white wine made from red grapes, which can be considered the ancestor of today's Franciacorta wine.
