Abstract
This article illustrates the main regulatory innovations introduced by
the European legislator in the field of personal data protection, which
call for profound organisational and functional reorganisation and
ongoing adaptation of the technological and operational solutions
adopted by public administrations. For the latter, this may represent
an opportunity to enhance the use of digital databases with a view
to revising procedural routes and ensuring greater effectiveness and
democracy.
