Abstract
The European Social Fund (ESF) implementation process in Italy is presented and discussed using both sociological and policy analysis categories. The complexity of ESF programming is assumed as the main feature characterising its intervention in Italy as well as the plurality of actors (instituions, social parts, public and private suppliers) involved in the implementation process. The link between such complexity and ESF evaluation models and methods is also introduced and discussed.
