The crisis of European citizenship in a relational perspective

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter

Abstract

The study conducted by adopting a relational (Donati 2010) and representational (Moscovici, Farr 1984) approach on the narration of European citizenship transmitted by the communication flow (from 1984 to 2017) of the main Italian newspapers,1 allowed the features of that image that substantiates the critical reflection of Italians on their belonging to the European Union to be drawn. The analysis of the representations of European citizenship has taken as its object a reference sample consisting of 710 articles published by the Corriere della Sera (290 articles), Repubblica (260 articles) and the La Stampa (160 articles). The texts have been codified, in four semantics: economic, political, sociological and value. By adopting the AGIL tool, in its relational re-elaboration it was possible to observe the different conceptual categories in their structural interrelation, identifying the links and the sense references that analytically compose the phenomenon.
