Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] "If men define certain real situations, they will be real in their consequences." This sentence does not belong to a security analyst, a special forces agent, a ministerial spokesperson or other experts. Instead it was coined by William Thomas in 1928: an American sociologist. It represents a simple concept, irreverent with respect to the magnitude of the truth that carries its meaning: the definition of the situation is called this axiom, it focuses attention on the role that the perception of people and its effects have in common living.
