Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Within the theoretical-clinical paradigms there are currently about twenty approaches aimed at accounting for the procedures and the results obtained through the clinical intervention of a couple. It is known how this type of intervention, beyond the difference between paradigms and models, encounters obstacles and common problems, revealing itself as a complex and difficult to manage intervention. On the basis of an ongoing international research, two approaches referring to different theoretical paradigms are presented and discussed: one "integrative" and the other "relational-symbolic". The first focuses on specific disorders, such as a member's depression, PTSD, substance abuse disorder and marital infidelity. This approach focuses on interventions that make the knowledge and working techniques that come from behavior analysis, cognition and attention to insight processes their own. Typically, such interventions include a targeted assessment, the application of treatment by phases and the integration of the empirical evidence that derives from it. For its part, the relational-symbolic approach focuses on problems and contexts of care and what it aims at is the focus of elements of crisis and resource present in the relationship. In particular, the problems-contexts of parenting, separation and divorce, as well as the physical illness of a member are treated. As regards the couple's relationship as such, the three crucial actions of diagnosing, intervening and verifying are highlighted. Respectively, it is a question of giving visibility to the non-visible (the bond), of detecting the quality of the couple exchange and of how to intervene by taking evidence of effectiveness and, specifically, efficiency tests. Both approaches use clinical cases to bring evidence of the issues and problems that couple treatment faces.
