[Autom. eng. transl.] Today High Education is confronted with the need for a profound cultural renewal to interpret profound socioeconomic transformations on global and local scales. It is called to develop thought and not only to produce paths, to discover and "to understand the deep network of interconnections and interdependencies that characterize the destiny of our species on Earth". Digital technologies and unprecedented organizational methods contribute to expanding the possibilities of deciphering needs and to elaborate theories and operational protocols, also by virtue of the heuristic tradition that distinguishes pedagogy, education and training science. The political choices that will characterize the coming years and the individual and collective choices that are emerging require an intentional multi-stakeholder opening in order to pursue the goal of a widespread and convinced consensus in order to structure efficient and effective training systems to respond to the challenges of the knowledge society. The book, without any pretense of completeness, considers some emblematic themes and perspectives of High Education, pedagogical research and intergenerational responsibility. Calling into question the change in labor policies in the European Union with particular reference to the debate that has developed in Italy. The notion of internationalization of higher education, supported by some of the most important world educational and training organizations such as the OECD and UNESCO, can be understood as an evolving political-cultural perspective. Faced with the current complex changes, green economy, smart cities and education are three emblematic scenarios for deciphering unprecedented emerging needs which High Education can respond by outlining objectives, models and methods to contribute to forming green skills and professionalism, because the future, too next, especially for young people, an opportunity for integral human development.
