Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The article studies the poetic production of Ruperta Bautista Vázquez and Juana Peñate, Mayan poets of Chiapas, as an expression of the renewal of current Mayan culture and of the same indigenous identity. Globalization has determined different reciprocally related phenomena that influence the same concept of identity: on the one hand, it is calling into question the legitimacy of Mayan culture; on the other, the publication of literary works in bilingual and electronic editions, the organization of workshops and writing courses for indigenous writers have contributed to a revitalization of local poetry and its promotion also in electronic pages and national magazines. The exchange of information between different social actors has also determined an awareness of ethnic identity and its changing and syncretic character. The production of Bautista Vázquez and Peñate is exemplary in this regard.
