Teaching Statistics in Non-Statistics Faculties

Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The debate on the teaching of statistics now has a decades-long tradition and the contributions in literature testify to this interest (Ottaviani, 2003). In an important contribution (Batanero, et al., 2000) the authors highlighted how the debate should refer to the psycho-pedagogical models of learning, a need subsequently emphasized also by Jolliffe (2003) with reference to the theories of “teaching and / or learning ". In this paper the proposals for the didactic re-organization of an introductory course in statistics aimed at students of Degree Courses in which Statistics is almost an exception for its mathematical-formal content, are based on psychological theories of adult learning, that is on the so-called andragogy.
