Abstract

The aim of this article is to study the moral and social values of the Swiss physician Théodore Tronchin (1709–1781) which he shared with his social milieu and which influenced his educational approach. Based on his correspondence – specifically with his son and with Jean-Jacques Rousseau – this article paints a picture of how a member of Geneva’s eighteenth-century bourgeoisie viewed family, fatherhood, religion and his country’s government.
