Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Smart city, an expression that constitutes a central theme of the 2014 High School for the Environment Summer School, identifies above all civil society, with its need for good relations and virtuous practices2. To build smart cities, smart and supportive territories and cities, it is essential to consider economically and welfare, governance and participation, energy and mobility, environment and education in an integrated way. It is a question of agreeing on a culture of life and common goods, combining technological innovation and social inclusion, the urban system and the formation of human capital. The sustainability of the territory, another central theme of the summer school, is essential to generate the future of the cities for which it is essential to recognize a value to education, to its presence in the public space, in relation to politics and institutions, financial and digital structures . Between conflicting interests and striking disputes, life in common can be fruitful by virtue of the natural resources and human labor on which each city is founded and has its roots, from which it draws prosperity.
