Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] In political economy, said a great Italian economist, Maffeo Pantaleoni, there are two schools always at war with each other: that of those who know the economy and that of those who do not know it. However, to say what it means to know the economy today is not easy. Also because a seemingly increasingly complex and ungovernable reality seems to identify very serious limits. We will therefore not attempt to answer the question directly. Instead, we will try to identify which obstacles stand in the way of a correct study of this science, asking ourselves whether the difficulties are due more to the training of economists than to the substance of political economy.
