[Autom. eng. transl.] The article elaborates a synthesis of Latin American history. It is delayed in the fact that liberalism was the biggest reform after the Spanish conquest. He then reviews the most important events of the twentieth century, from dictatorships to the fall of Allende, tries to explain some Latin American anomalies and sees in the new political experiments, from Chavez to Lula, a reason to renew the common place according to the which Latin America is the continent of hope.
