Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume contains a series of essays on the epitome, by Giustino, of the Philippine Stories of Pompeo Trogo, for the period from Nino, king of the Assyrians, to Philip II of Macedonia. The path of analysis proposed here highlights the characteristics of a strongly original work of universal history, which, by detaching itself from the great classical historiography from Herodotus to Xenophon, adopts the key to understanding the succession of empires, foregrounding Persia, it reduces the role of Greek cities (with the exception of Sparta alone) and culminates in the centrality of Macedonian hegemony.
