Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] After the analysis of the sector, the analysis of basic competitive strategies is the second step in understanding the competitive strategy. It takes as its starting point the analysis of the sector, which is aimed at identifying the causes that explain: - the average profitability of the sector in a certain period (expressed by the average profitability of the invested capital, or the ratio between the overall operating result obtained in the sector and the overall invested capital of the sector); - the variability of the profitability of the sector from one group of companies to another, or from one company to another, observed in the same period; - the variability of the average profitability of the sector in subsequent periods (defined by the medium-long term trend, by the amplitude of the fluctuations with respect to the trend and by the frequency of fluctuations).
