Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Introduction to the collection Nome e lagrime. Short stories, sometimes very short, published in various newspapers and the draft of a novel that Elio Vittorini was working on and which will become Conversation in Sicily. Nome e lagrime, published for the first time in 1941, is a lucid and dreamlike portrait of modern cities, the pulsating center of society, where the passions of twentieth-century man congregate. The stories revolve around the daily life of simple people but also the existential questions that accompany the journey of a lifetime of each of us. In this agile collection we also find the testimony of the great writer's anti-fascism, a literary suture among his greatest novels.
