Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume contains the contributions presented at the conference "Christian Tradition, Cultural Identity, Italian Unity" (Milan, 14-16 May 2012), organized by the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. According to the most warned historiographical guidelines, if on the one hand the process of national unification took place in the short and tumultuous time of the events that occupied the years from 1848 to 1860, through the unhinging of the system of the ancient states of the peninsula and, shortly thereafter , the end of the temporal power of the Catholic Church, on the other hand the unification of the Italian nation was formed in the long time of civilization. Thus, those events represented the natural outlet, the arrival point of a secular history, deeply imbued and informed by the presence and work of Christianity. Around this problematic junction, the professors of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, each in their own disciplinary field, and some historians, specialists in the subject, have engaged in an interdisciplinary work, which refers to a broad and varied picture of the constitutive moment of Italy Contemporary.
