Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The celestial novelties revealed by the telescopic observations and the claim of an autonomous method with which to advance scientific research inaugurate a lively debate in the century of Galileo that obliges historical and literary knowledge to reconsider their relationship with the other culture, that of the mathematics and natural philosophy. Thanks to the invaluable contribution of the Lincei academicians, Galileo also soon understands, however, how the destinies of the book of science can depend on the options of gender and the rhetorical solutions adopted in it. This volume attempts to show, on the one hand, the literary, Dantesque and above all Ariostesque substratum, operating in the linguistic and stylistic practice of the Galilean writings; on the other, as, probably also in virtue of these communicative choices, the fundamental purchases of the new science become along the central decades of the seventeenth century unavoidable cultural data even for the man of letters.
