Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] National and international research has been able to delve into important differences between students of small schools located in rural communities and students of metropolitan schools, with particular reference to learning in STEM disciplines. The narrative review proposed in this contribution highlights the factors that contribute to improving the STEM educational offer in small schools, including: the need to identify place-consciousness teaching methods, capable of stimulating students' interest and provide guidance regarding interests and careers; attention to leadership practices, fundamental not only to support STEM activities that reconnect with the territory but to guarantee the development of skills and professionalization of teachers; the need to identify guiding models for the design of multi-class STEM teaching experiences; Studies conducted at a national and international level allow us to identify some indications and practices to share with small Italian schools. The contribution focuses on a good Italian practice of multi-class STEM teaching, an instrumental case for the diffusion of small schools in the National Movement and for the training of teachers.
