Abstract

The Passion of the Aquileian martyrs Felix and Fortunatus provides documentary evidence to the beginnings of monasticism in Western Europe with a good historical reliability as other literary sources both older and coeval can testify. It betrays a Christian spirituality characterized by firm and tena- cious ties with the Jewish matrix which has determined its ways of ritual prayer and its feelings against idolatry
