Abstract
The volume has an educational aim. It starts specifying the matter under discussion, that is migrations processes analysed under a sociological perspective, in particular as a complex of social relations that involve migrants, non migrants and potential migrants. A special attention is devoted to the migrants' incorporation in the host society, with particular regard to the insertion in labour market and following embeddedness perspective, which assume that economic actions does not obey economic rationality of individual interest maximization, but also reflect social and institutional context features where they happen. The text is focused on migrations for labour aims, on their causes and on policies that try to govern them, all with reference to the experience of developed nations, in particular, European countries. The themes more developed are the different definitions existing of migrants; international migrations history, deepening contemporary phases; theories on the reasons of migrations flows activation and their perpetuation in the years; migrations policies, their influence on the evolutions of relations between migrants and host society and the causes of their failure; migrants economic incorporation processes, with particular reference of the relations between immigrants role and the development model adopted in host society; the relationship between international migrations and the development of the sending communities.
