Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume, completing the analysis proposed in the previous publication "Sociology of Migration", shares its intention to offer a scientifically based reflection on issues that the political and mass mediation tradition is used to reduce to their most alarmist manifestations and to the object of sterile ideological opposition. Result of a wide review of the most recent international studies, it offers an overview of the main questions raised by inter-ethnic coexistence in contemporary societies: from the integration process, as it is described by post-assimilationist paradigms, to the different national models of incorporation of migrants and ethnic minorities; from ethnic prejudice to racism; from discrimination (which affects not only first-generation migrants but also their descendants) to measures that can counteract it; to finally arrive at the issue of citizenship, the hypothesis of a "post" or "transnational" citizenship and the ongoing debate on citizenship rights (from the right to vote for immigrants to so-called ethnic rights).
