Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] In addition to defining Smart working, we are wondering about the forms and practices in which it can occur, and above all about identifying the conditions in which these practices can be considered advantageous. In this contribution we want to discuss whether smart working represents a form in some way "other" of relationship between individual and organization with respect to consolidated forms. Since every attempt at interpretation presupposes the adoption of a theoretical reference perspective, the prospect of transaction cost economics (ECT) will be used, in order to illuminate some aspects of Smart working as a choice regarding the boundaries of the organization. The emphasis on the aspect of boundaries is justified not only because smart work practices could "widen" the physical boundaries of workplaces, but also and above all to understand if and how they can change organizational boundaries by changing the nature of the relationship individual and organization.
