[Autom. eng. transl.] This book contains the papers of a seminar that a study group of the section "Sociological theories and social change" of the AIS held at the University of Pavia at the end of September 1986. It aims to try to show the type of contribution that the neosystemics are able to offer progress in sociological theory. Its object, therefore, is not constituted by a discussion of the specific contents of the neosystems as such, but rather by a research aimed at showing how different neosystemic approaches apply to problems and objects of sociology in a way that seems able to overcome ancient and new dualisms that, placed in a new light ,. now appear finally freed from rigid and unproductive contrasts. In truth the sociological objects, to which the essays presented here are applied, are reduced to one, the problem of action and of the social actor. This, together with the systemic method, is the red thread that unifies the essays and the interventions of the book. Perhaps the systemic language could help us look at ourselves (understood as social actors) with a more open eye towards new cognitive possibilities and more critically reflective towards the ways in which we represent ourselves. Is this possible without losing something that we still hold as subjectivity? In other words, can socio-systemic develop models in which the thematization of macrostructures does not nullify the prerogatives of subjectivity, such as a certain freedom of initiative and orientation to meaning? It was questions of this kind that the seminar intended to try to answer.
