Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Starting from the deposition of Hosni Mubarak, state control over the Sinai gradually faded away, generating a growing instability - fueled also by the crisis that followed the coup against Mohamed Morsi - especially in the northern part of the peninsula, mostly in the border areas with Israel (between Rafah, al-Arish and Sheikh Zuweid), where jihadist and Salafist armed groups have taken root, some of which are clearly Qaidist.
